Cultural Recommendation 53

Miles Davis and John Coltrane performing the song "So What" in a television performance in 1959. This is absolutely outstanding footage. Great stuff.

These guys were phenomenal musicians, masters of their craft and innovators. Coltrane on the sax is the rough equivalent of Jimi Hendrix on the electric guitar. Miles Davis transcended genres and created new ones as his career spanned hard bop/bebop, cool jazz, and jazz/rock fusion. Many of the top selling recording artists today can't plan an instrument, write music, or sing.

Not only were Davis & Coltrane stellar musicians, the list of top rate musical talent they introduced to the music world through their different bands is incredible. The list is too long to list here, but MOST of the musicians I listen to personally came from Miles Davis' & John Coltrane's many different bands. These two talents & the talent they spawned will NEVER again be matched. Thank you Pundit for this footage.
